Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07, often abbreviated as Bi-07, is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria gaining increasing attention for its potential health benefits. At Akasha Naturals, we're committed to incorporating scientifically supported ingredients into our formulations, and Bi-07 plays a prominent role in several of our supplements. This article delves deeper into the science behind Bi-07, exploring its benefits, research, and application within our product range.
What is Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07?
Bi-07 is a Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium naturally found in the gut microbiota of infants and breastfed babies. It belongs to the genus Bifidobacterium, known for its beneficial effects on digestive health and overall well-being. Bi-07 has been extensively studied for its unique properties, including:
- High survival rate: Unlike many probiotics, Bi-07 exhibits exceptional resistance to stomach acid and bile, allowing it to reach the intestines alive and exert its benefits.
- Adhesion to the gut lining: Bi-07 possesses strong adhesive properties, enabling it to colonize the intestinal tract and compete with potentially harmful bacteria.
- Lactose digestion: Bi-07 produces the enzyme lactase, assisting in the breakdown of lactose, the sugar found in milk and dairy products. This may be beneficial for individuals with mild lactose intolerance.
- Immune modulation: Research suggests Bi-07 may stimulate the immune system, potentially enhancing resistance to infections and inflammatory conditions.

Potential Benefits of Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07
Based on existing research, Bi-07 supplementation holds promise for various health aspects:
- Digestive health: Studies indicate Bi-07 may alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), improve stool consistency, and reduce bloating and discomfort.
- Lactose intolerance: Bi-07 supplementation may improve lactose digestion in individuals with mild intolerance, facilitating dairy product consumption.
- Immune function: Evidence suggests Bi-07 may enhance immune response, potentially reducing the risk of infections and boosting overall immune health.
- Infantile health: Bi-07 supplementation may offer benefits for infants, potentially decreasing the incidence of diarrhea and respiratory infections.
It's important to note that research on Bi-07 is ongoing, and further studies are needed to fully understand its long-term benefits and effects on diverse populations.
